Racism is the only explanation
The game these bastards are playing at the Department of Defense these days is that they are weeding out diversity programs so that only merit matters and not the color of your skin or gender. That’s the story they are selling to the MAGA idiots who lap it up like milk in a bowl for a kitten.
They’re lying their asses off. This is all about racism and misogyny to clear out any honors, recognition, and memories for people of color and women. We know this because they are literally telling us in clear terms.
Arlington National Cemetery gets the eraser
On Friday came the shocking news that historian Kevin Levin had discovered that Arlington National Cemetery was systematically 'unpublishing’ website links to notable graves, walking tours, and educational materials that supported studying Black, Hispanic, and women veterans and servicemembers buried in the military’s flagship cemetery. This includes even some Medal of Honor recipients.
Arlington is the most hallowed ground in the entire United States military. Covering several hundred acres in Virginia within site of the Lincoln Memorial, ANC holds over 400,000 of our fallen servicemembers, veterans, two Presidents, and over 400 Medal of Honor recipients.
There are even allies buried there from plane crashes of “mixed remains.” Section 60 has become iconic as the home of the fallen from the longest war in U.S. history.
Military focused website Task & Purpose was first to break the news.
“But in recent weeks, the cemetery’s public website has scrubbed dozens of pages on gravesites and educational materials that include histories of prominent Black, Hispanic and female service members buried in the cemetery, along with educational material on dozens of Medal of Honor recipients and maps of prominent gravesites of Marine Corps veterans and other services.
Cemetery officials confirmed to Task & Purpose that the pages were “unpublished” to meet recent orders by President Donald Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth targeting race and gender-related language and policies in the military.
Gone from public view are links to lists of dozens of “Notable Graves” at Arlington of women and Black and Hispanic service members who are buried in the cemetery. About a dozen other “Notable Graves” lists remain highlighted on the website, including lists of politicians, athletes and even foreign nationals.”
It’s a systematic effort to erase actual history. But, that’s not even the most outrageous part.
Over the weekend some truly evil shit was found.
A heroes memory disgraced
I know we are used to seeing truly shameful stuff from this Administration but I think this might be the worst. I first spotted this news from my friend Brandon Friedman who is a fellow 101st Airborne veteran of Iraq and posted this shocking story.
First, until today if you Googled the highest ranking black officer to ever receive the Medal of Honor, Major General Charles Calvin Rogers, you would find amidst the results a link to a Department of Defense page highlighting a series they have run called “Medal of Honor Monday” honoring recipients of our nations highest award for valor.
If you clicked on that link it leads a classic 404 Error for when a page has been removed from a website.
But, here is where your rage meter is about to explode. If you clicked on that URL at the top saying ‘Defense.gov” you will find the entire URL was this:
Look carefully at that middle part. Yes. It says “deimedal-of-honor-monday”
I copied and pasted it to make sure I wasn’t crazy. I am not.
Who was MG Rogers and how did he earn the medal?
Charles Rogers was the most senior black soldier to ever receive the Medal of Honor. You can read his incredible biography and story at the Congressional Medal of Honor Society website where they at least still honor the memory of those who served regardless of color.
From CMOHS:
“Charles Rogers grew up in a small coal mining camp in West Virginia. His father, a veteran of World War I, was undoubtedly the inspiration for the path he followed. From him, he learned a love of God and a love of country. Later in life he was quoted as saying, “Everything I did in high school and college was done to make my mom and dad proud of me.”
Educated in the segregated schools of the 1940s and 1950s, he was quarterback for his high school football team, was elected student body president, and was consistently on the academic honor roll. He attended what is now West Virginia State University where he participated in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. He graduated with a major in mathematics, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in Field Artillery, and entered the Army in the initial years of desegregation.”
Rogers often spoke of the challenges he faced as a black man in the Army as an officer but steadily climbed through the ranks and found himself commanding the 1st Battalion of the 5th Artillery with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1968.
The story of his courage is incredible.
On Halloween night, 1968, Rogers observed heavy traffic on the Ho Chi Minh Trail bringing supplies to the NVA in South Vietnam. U.S. rules of engagement, however, prevented him from ordering an attack on targets inside Cambodia; he had to wait for the enemy troops and supplies to cross the border before his men could open fire. The North Vietnamese, however, had no such restrictions and fired rockets and mortars at the outpost from across the border. Rogers organized an effort to delay the expected assault on the base; he personally directed the placement of his howitzer batteries and the anti-personnel fire. In the early hours after midnight on November 1st, the perimeter of Fire Base Rita was breached by a much larger enemy force and the 1st Battalion was engaged in close combat.
Known as a leader who led from the front, Rogers went where the action was most intense, rallying troops and personally directing and redirecting the howitzer fire. He ran from position to position, even assuming a place on one fire team that had been diminished by casualties; engaged in close-range firefights; and was wounded multiple times during the three assaults. After being wounded so seriously that he could no longer fight himself, he continued calling encouragement and reassurance to his troops. Due in no small part to his courageous leadership, 1st Battalion prevailed and the NVA force was repelled.
Yes, you read that right. He would be wounded three times during the battle and even after being carried off the line by stretcher he continued to direct his forces in their defense until they defeated the enemy.
For his incredible bravery, Lt. Col. Rogers was awarded the Medal of Honor by none other than Republican President Richard M. Nixon on May 14th, 1970.
For perspective, the Secretary of Defense left the Army National Guard as a Major having never led a unit larger than a platoon. Rogers went on to become a full Major General before retiring and becoming a Baptist Minister. He passed away in 1990.
Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth labeled his heroic service as a “DEI Medal of Honor” and deleted the website telling his story in Arlington National Cemetery. We are now finding out his page isn’t the only one that the DOD has added the DEI tag into for hiding.
This is the most shameful and disgusting leadership in the history of the United States military and the stain left by these immoral racists will take years to erase.
That’s where we are folks. Let’s not let them get away with sneaking around in the dark thinking we won’t catch them in their lies and hate.
I discussed it on today’s ‘On Democracy | Sunday’ during our first livestream of the show here on Substack!
