New Podcast: Getting stuff done for the American People
Virginia U.S. House Representative Abigail Spanberger has been working her whole life to get things done for the U.S. and she continues her mission today
Using a dirty word in D.C.
As I prepared for my conversation with U.S. House Representative Abigail Spanberger one word I kept noticing her using in her public appearances was really weird to hear: bipartisan. She uses it quite a bit in her work for the people of Virginia and it’s a rare thing these days.
Congresswoman Spanberger is very proud that she is working hard in one of the few relatively purple House districts in the country for everyone who lives there. That means that she will have to often work across the aisle for legislation she is passionate about. For example, she recently got approved a bill that bans the airlines from charging fees for parents to fly seated with their own children.
I was shocked to learn she’s even working with Ultra-MAGA Congressman Chip Roy, with whom she shares a birthday, to build support for a bipartisan bill banning individual stock trades by member of Congress and their immediate family members. They can’t find much to agree on but they recognize that the appearance of insider trading by elected representatives undermines the entire institution.
That’s not to say she isn’t a warrior for what is is right and protecting our national security. As a former CIA case officer, she is a leading voice in pushing back against Tommy Tuberville’s outrageous hold on flag officer promotions leaving the Marine Corps without a Commandant for the first time in a century and a half. Quantico is in her district and she is getting an earful from service members and veterans. What Tuberville is doing is an outrageous abuse of his power and its hurting our nation.
This was a fascinating, and wide ranging, conversation on the dangers to our national security, the problems average Americans face, and the opportunities that lay ahead. It’s absolutely worth your time to catch early as a paid member or download from your favorite audio platform before it debuts on MeidasTouch tonight at 11:00 PM EST.
