Tommy Tuberville and the GOP hate the military
Alex Vindman has lived through the GOP attacks on the modern military and doesn't hold back anymore
Yes, Tommy you are destroying national security
Every day Tommy Tuberville comes up with a new excuse to back up his outrageous hold on unanimous consent passage of what is now over 300 flag officer promotions for the United States military. On any given day he is throwing spaghetti against the wall from abortion to too many woke generals to, the most outrageous lie, that this isn’t really hurting national security because the outgoing commander can just stay on.
His stated reason for all of this is a demand that the Department of Defense repeal a medical travel funding policy that covers the travel costs of service members who must travel for reproductive health care that is not available where they are stationed.
In spite of anything that Republicans and anti-Choice zealots will tell you, the policy does not violate the so called ‘Hyde Amendment’ which forbids the U.S. government from paying for abortions. This is an extension of existing medical travel regulations that cover service members who are stuck somewhere they can’t get medical treatment they need ranging from someone in Iraq who needs cancer care to a military child in Italy who needs surgery in the U.S.
We force our service members to live in places that have turned their backs on science and we owe them the ability to travel for legal healthcare where they can get it. Period.
Do your damn job
This week I have my friend Alex Vindman on the show to discuss the impasse which is not a ‘feud’ as CNN would like to frame it. It’s a hostage situation and one stupid Senator is holding the entire U.S. military and our national security at gun point.
We discuss at length the nuances of this situation and try to explain it in layman’s terms for civilians who might be confused by the bullshit being tossed out not just by Tuberville, but by his allies and even right wing veterans and supposed service members. This is a very real threat to national security not just now but for years to come.
In the end this is about Tuberville’s massive incompetence as a Senator. He has power to write bills, offer amendments, build coalitions of like minded Senators to filibuster laws, and a host of other powers…but those are actual work. Instead he is using the laziest of them all. Simply refusing to approve unanimous consent and then fucking off to his beach house in Florida.
Check out this helpful discussion as well as an update on things in Ukraine and the long term threat posed by far right MAGA efforts to undermine our military and national security.
If you’ve followed Alex for a while you’ll really want to watch this interview and see him letting us hear very clearly where he stands on this moment.
