Trump is ramping up his threats. I beat Mike Flynn by never offering any compromise and the incredible support of fellow Americans. Time for us all to step up to the moment.
NO ONE is America should now have any doubt that we ARE in a FULL BLOWN Constitutional Crisis!!! Trump and his entire administration have gone rogue and are IGNORING the Constitution, The Bill of Rights, the Rule of Law........and saying to everyone in America - FU! We are doing WHATEVER THE HELL WE WANT AND WE DARE YOU TO STOP US!!!!!!
This gripped me and moved me. I’ve been an activist since the 60’s. My latest was canvassing through Arizona and Nevada for Harris. But for the first time in my life, I’ve been seriously considering how more vocal and active I can become. It’s not my age or an infirmity that makes me pause before activism, it is fear, plain and simple. I fear being singled out and losing my Social Security. This would impact my whole family who would insist on taking on my costs of living. I’m ashamed to admit this fear. I still donate when I can and I write letters to Congress but since I live in California I’m preaching to the choir. But as I contemplate my fear, I realize that being afraid is the most important reason to redouble my actions to bring down fascism. Thank you for your inspiring article!
If you are overseas, like me - then go phone-bank for all the special elections still to come. I phone-banked for the Wisconsin Supreme Court election, and we won. Do everything you can so that in November 2026, Trump loses both houses — even if he continues to try to rule by Fiat (executive order), without congress he can’t do anything fiscal.
Brave for what you did! Seriously. You stood up. I think of all of those lawyers who won't stand up, who agree to do "pro bono" work for the gov't though they could easily retire from their cushy jobs and live off their savings. They could carve out different lives, take a long hard look at what they sacrificed for their legal careers. And who they sacrificed.
That's the underlying argument that Bernie Sanders is making--that it's not just about Trump the megalomaniac, Trump the revenger. It's about a long hard look at what we've admired and assumed--as long as I'm alright, who cares about the others. They're poor because of their poor choices. They're criminals because they're evil. Don't look too deeply.
But now we ARE being asked/encouraged/forced TO look deeply at what this country has become and why. The fact that there are grains of "truth" in the propaganda that Trump has fed his MAGA followers, the fact that he found people who were disaffected, felt hard done by and was able to build on those feelings, was able to convince them that the problems could be solved by taking back the country--those facts should have been seen and addressed. Not with dismissive comments but with some kind of understanding.
Did we spend too much time in our schools worrying about the average kid's happiness and not enough time teaching them not only basic reading, writing and arithmetic but also civics? And not only kids, what was happening to our homes? Were we keeping up with what was happening?
Did we not spend enough time looking at what our local politicians, our state politicians were promising and why? Did we not look around us, outside of the US, to see what was going on as well?
These are only a few of the questions that occur to me this Monday morning. I return to my original point. When did we start thinking that there was never "enough" in our economy, that it required a so-called celebrity entrepreneur--purportedly a successful business whose businesses were built on family money and cronies from dubious walks of life--to "fix" an economy that he himself had profited from and wanted to profit MORE from. A judicial system that had failed to rein him in when it should have now becomes his tool. An education system that has failed to produce a majority of well-informed people who would see right through a conman. How ironic that he wants to dismantle the very system that enabled him to rise to power.
Great article. I'm glad you are behind from that horrible person trying to sue you. What an interesting history your family has with your great, great, great... Grandfather. Go Blue!
We knew he wanted vengeance and retaliation against his opposers! What is mind baffling is that we continue to allow him that power!
We know other countries that have those who want to be dictators and they were overthrown.
The writing was on the walls right out the gate of him being sworn in, and he is still in power to do as he pleases!
We know he has placed loyalists in position to scare and put fear in everyone possible!
People are foolish to believe that democracy will stand this outrageous, ruling and lawless behavior!
Actions speak louder than words and he has acted upon what we knew he was planning on doing!
Now it is up to us to go to the streets and stay until all the traitors are forced out! We need our actions to be stronger than our words of complaints!
If we don’t meet their actions with our actions of being United, and in the streets, we will continue to get what we’re getting!
As we are in the streets, we need to get the message out for everyone else to join us if they want their rights and their freedoms! The message should be to join us so that we can keep our Constitution and make the felon serve his time! We must show the world that we do not stand for this so that we have a fighting chance of getting back our reputation and hopefully that we can be trusted again! The world is watching and waiting to see if we will take our country back or if we will let it fall!
We can do this if we stand together, UNITED, instead of letting them continue to divide us so that we will fall under their control!!!
IT IS UP TO EVERYONE OF US AND IT IS OUR CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY TO REMOVE TYRANTS FROM POWER!!!!
We are not in power. Only takes a few Republicans to stand up. To get started, ask Congressional Republicans to support removing Trump tariff authority.
We have the power as citizens to take to the street in the millions and pressure them to leave or be removed. That is the power we have and is our constitutional duty by the second amendment to remove tyrannical dictators!
I'm so glad the lawsuit was dropped against you. Did you get attorney's fees and compensation as a frivolous lawsuit? I hope so. Otherwise, they just keep suing people until they run up against those who willingly cave like some of the Big Law have been.
Thank you for your story and encouragement. I have ancestors who fought at the battles of Lexington and Concord as well. My family members were quite active in the Revolutionary War, financing and fighting in it as well as forming our government and holding government positions. That spirit has been passed down through the generations. My mother became an active member in the LWV, becoming the President of the state of CT chapter in the ‘60s going on to serve town political positions.
At one time I was contemplating moving to Portugal but got shamed out of abandoning our country. I decided I needed to carry on our family tradition and fight in the best way I could to save our country. I have always suffered from agoraphobia which go worse during the pandemic and since being retired I rarely get out. But after reading your story and remembering that I told my 95 year old mother that I would fight for our country, I plan to go to my first protest this weekend and see where that leads. I’m 73 and considered that I may have enjoyed the best years of our country thanks to past generations and those who worked and fought for a better country. Now I need to accept and act upon doing my part to insure that future generations may also enjoy the benefits of a stable and healthy democracy. We have come full circle needing to free ourselves from another Mad King.

Yep. It’s time to stand up.
We need to pressure Congressional Republicans. https://jerryweiss.substack.com/

I'm in. I have never stopped speaking up or supporting the folks who do.
Fred -- this is a truly inspiring article. So I upgraded just now to paid subscriber. Keep it coming!

You would think so. These fathers do not care to even spread the truth.
