Thank you for this post. I appreciate the very real fear that our elected representatives experience, and I admire your own courage in standing up to threats. What boggles my mind is how the very Senators who fear for their own safety will vote to put others in harms way via their votes to confirm Kash "Chainsaw" Patel . Patel, who created and published an enemies list and has threatened a broadside of revenge and retribution. I ask the Senators, Is it all OK as long as the threats are directed to someone else?

Republicans' anonymous leaks to media are the equivalent of the story about the defendant who murdered his parents and begged for mercy because he was an orphan.

Sherman is offering cover for access.

It's a race to the bottom between quisling media and quisling politicians.

I was a criminal prosecutor for almost 30 years. At various times over the course of my career, I received death threats. From murderers. At one point, I ran afoul of the far right, and Ammon Bundy made threats to me on his crackpot-cast and sent armed militia to picket my home.

I am no one. Just a 59 year old woman who did her best to prosecute bad people for three decades. I'm not rich. I can't afford private security. I don't have secret service protection.

I did my duty. I refused to be intimidated. These fuckers - who are rich; who live in gated communities; who can afford to fly private and hire security and keep themselves safe - they are such weak, craven, pathetic cowards.

If you are afraid of your constituents to the point that you cannot do your job - which is literally to save our country from authoritarianism, or a massive economic crash, or possibly causing WWIII- then resign. Let someone with some actual courage take your place.

I cannot even begin to tell Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski and Thom Tillis and Bill Cassidy how little their re-election matters right now. If you are willing to throw away our entire country because you are afraid you might have to get a real fucking job, then you have no business being a part of our government.

You say you have families. You know what? So do I. So do all of us who stand in the breach between violence and safety. We all have families. Your family is not more important than mine.

The fact is, these abhorrent Republican cowards and traitors had dozens of opportunities to get this criminal piece of sociopathic trash the fuck out of power for more than 6 years now. The reason they refused to act in the beginning was simply due to the fact that they crave the power, and far more so the wealth that they corruptly accrue from that power. It is for this exact reason, and so many more, that I don't give the slightest flying fuck about the threats they now face. They brought those threats on themselves by refusing to get rid of the monster, again and again, when there was little to no threat in doing so.

It currently appears that these reprehensible cowards are completely neglecting to recognize that they now face an additional, and rapidly intensifying threat that they hadn't before. That threat is US. The silent majority is waking up, and becoming pissed off. Really fucking pissed off. Uncharacteristically, uncontrollably, immensely fucking pissed off.... AT THEM.

Worse yet for them, is the fact that each day another one of their prior supporters is waking up from the years long indoctrination they've been subjected to, and their loyalty to them is disintegrating. Every MAGA voter who loses their job, watches their kid's school be defunded, loses their Medicaid, watches their stocks tank, or god forbid loses their Social Security or Medicare etc .., will eventually realize that Trump and these Republicans screwed them, NOT the Democrats.

In short, if they're scared now, they have no idea how bad it's really going to get for them. If they had any brains at all, and they don't, they would risk trading sides now before it becomes too late. But they won't. They need to recognize that there's a massive storm brewing, and if/when it finally takes full formation it's gonna be barreling straight FOR THEM...

Thank you for your post and for your service and those who served with you. This whole situation is surreal, but my connections to Northern Ireland give me some sense of what it was like to be in a country with military rule. The Northern Irish Catholics/Nationalists had a way of making the best of a terrible situation that lasted over 30 years. I take strength from their example.

Thank you for your integrity and service to our country at a time when most politicians have forgotten their pledges to the constitution. Keep up the great work and we’ll stand with you.

The should all quit en masse. Let the democrats deal with the horrible person. We always have to clean up the republican mess anyways. Might as well get started.

I would suggest that our entire party do everything they can to support the two Florida special election candidates. The votes are happening April first and if both win WILL result in democrats flipping the house. Josh Weil and Gay Valimont are both running to flip their very red districts blue as well as Blake Gendebien in a New York special election but that date hasn’t been announced yet. Special election ions have notoriously low turnouts so this may be impossible but volunteering to send texts or mail postcards or donate money IS something that we can ALL do the might make a very real difference

Thank you so very very much for your service and this inspirational post Mr. Wellman. I've been really depressed after this ghastly news week re: Ukraine....Trump bowing down to Putin....migrants in jungle camps and Gitmo...planes falling from the sky...measles outbreaks...now thanks to the confirmation of crazy Kash Patel I, too, am considered an enemy of the United States. I really needed to hear these words today. Thank you so much. I'm in. 1000 % #RiseResistRepeat #NeverSurrender. ❤️🇺🇸💙🙏

Mr. Wellman- thank you for your unwavering service and dedication to America. It’s a shame many public servants don’t have the same commitment. Reading your words and all of the a comments posted brings comfort to know I’m not alone in being angry and scared. I hope many Americans rise up to this terrible moment our country is facing.🙏🏼

It is amazing to me that the same people who promised their constituents that a vote for them means a vote for democracy, rule of law, fairness and other basic human rights, are now the same people (except a few) who are voting with the party of Putin. They are allowing an unelected foreign national with Nazi beliefs to access to our secret security services and plans, and our economic stability. The people we voted for are betraying our trust and complicit in erasing our indivisible freedoms guaranteed by the constitution. Apparently they are inept or corrupt or just plain seriously uninformed. Why, is not the question. Betrayal and dishonesty after swearing to uphold the constitution and doing the opposite is not going to be accepted by those who voted for their empty promises. They are not there to support an unconstitutional agenda. They are not there to disregard our national security. They are not there to do nothing when basic human rights written into law are ignored. People are dying as a result. Our foundational rights of citizenship are being erased by those with a corrupt and deadly agenda. Right before our eyes.
