Fred,

I am a retired career Army officer, later Army and then Navy, and I celebrated 29th anniversary of my ordination to the priesthood today. I can only say to you, “Fucking A Right” preach it Colonel. I pray, but I am so damned tired of the thoughts and prayers bullshit from people that we pay to our elected representatives to serve our people and work to fix things, not to break them.

Great column. Keep it up.

All the best, watch your six,

Steve Dundas, CDR, CHC, USN (Ret)

I live in Western North Carolina. Not only have they gutted the warning systems, they took all the FEMA money that is needed for the areas devastated by Helene and built the concentration camp in the Everglades. These are some deranged fuckers.

Fred, you are spot on! No, Mike Johnson is not helpless. No, Trump, devastating floods don’t just happen every 100 years. No, Noem, your fast talking stream of meaningless words are not reassuring, and it isn’t Biden’s fault. And no, Leavitt, Trump doesn’t love the “great people of Texas”.

No, he doesn’t. Not if you’re a Democrat.

“‘Only because they hate Trump. But I hate them, too. You know that? I really do, I hate them. I cannot stand them, because I really believe they hate our country, you want to know the truth,’the president told the crowd.”

Actually, he doesn’t love anyone.

Government is here to help us, not live off of us.

They want us to believe these things are "God's will" so we will tacitly accept it. Science and agencies like NOAA interfere with that.

Very good reporting, gee tRump denied FEMA Funds to Texas he was probably in a snit with Ted Cancun Cruz about something pointless. The repthugs in Texas clearly don't give a damn anymore holy Mike Johnson, this is another reason for separation of church and state. The repthugs can stick their thoughts and prayers 🙏 and do their damn jobs before more people are n needlessly killed by negligence.

I lived in Austin when the worst snow storm hit. It was horrible! I was a plumbing dispatcher and I cried cause the pain of people dealing with homes freezing then flooding and no heat or electricity. I had the worst electric bill ever after that. We have the worst government and I thank people like you for fighting. I lost my daughter when she was 13. I have been following this tragedy and I keep crying. It horrible!!! Prayers are not the solution!

Thank you. It’s been 23 years but the pain is always with me. I feel so hard for the parents of those children and for the whole families of those that are lost. 😭

Johnson is sickening, and he shouldn't be in government. But since he is, how dare he say all "we" can do is pray. This is hurricane season, and the horrifying events in Texas aren't a one-off, they're going to be repeated in some form, over and over and over.

Even without senseless NOAA cuts, Texas state Republican Senators blocked funding for flood warning legislation for almost a decade.

There is a desperate need for decent local people to run for downballot offices throughout the country to break GOP supermajorities.

Far too many offices are unchallenged. Anyone reading this newsletter is more than qualified to run.

Channel your rage into action...there are so many grassroots organizations that can walk you through every step.

Well, maybe a prayer list is in order then? 1. Pray for the victims of the flood. 2. Pray for the victims of the assassination. 3. Pray for the victims of the child sex traffickers etc... A National Prayer List for us all to read and repeat, over and over while we discuss how it all happened.

Somehow the county commissioners didn’t think a warning system was important enough to raise taxes for, in spite of being in a flood plain, knowing the Guadeloupe River flooded badly and having a camp near by and vulnerable. This is exactly what our tax money is supposed to be for!
