Last night (Saturday June 7th 2025) Governor Gavin Newsom of California released the following statements in regard to ICE arrests on D-day
"The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard, and deploy 2,000 soldiers [in Los Angeles]. That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions [between Californians and ICE]."
"LA authorities are able to access law enforcement assistance at a moment’s notice. We are in close coordination with the city and county, and there is currently no unmet need."
"The [California] Guard has been admirably serving LA throughout recovery [of California wildfires and ICE incidents]."
"This is the wrong mission and will erode public trust."
"As the federal government conducts chaotic immigration sweeps across the country, the state is deploying additional CHP (California Highway Patrols) to maintain safety on Los Angeles highways to keep the peace."
"It’s NOT their job to assist in federal immigration enforcement (ICE)."
"The federal government is sowing chaos so they can have an excuse to escalate. That is not the way any civilized country behaves."
"The federal government is taking over the California National Guard — not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle."
While Trump can announce the deployment, the formal legal case for State Guard federalization would need to be made to the House and Senate on Monday, unless Trump ignores legal challenges and moves forward without any congressional approval.
Under normal circumstances, the California National Guard answers to the governor, not the president. However, Trump appears to be invoking Title 10, which could place this state's Guard under federal control.
There is no insurrection emergency. ICE is trying to meet Trump's quotas rather than respond to any criminal activity. State officials have NOT said they were overwhelmed by a crime wave, nor has there been any official request for help made to the federal government.
That is what Governor Gavin Newsom has made abundantly clear.
In response, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth then announced the 2,000 soldiers will be IMMEDIATELY mobilized from the National Guard instead.

This is nothing short of a federal invasion against the sovereignty of a state's constitution. It is a criminal order from the president, where military troops are being deployed against American civilians, to support a domestic force that has been outfitted with US military combat gear.
Pete Hegseth has also stated that the Marines at Camp Pendleton are on high alert and ready to be deployed to Los Angeles in-order to assist ICE.
Pendleton is one of the largest Marine core bases in America, located in San Diego, California.
Once again, Governor Gavin Newsom immediately made it clear they were not needed, nor requested by the state of California:
"The Secretary of Defense is now threatening to deploy active-duty Marines on American soil against its own citizens. This is deranged behavior."
These last postings were happening in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Newsom got them out on Twitter and Instagram. But, they were not echoed on his Bluesky account or the Governor's website as of this writing
Hegseth is known for his chronic alcohol abuse, holding military strategic meetings over Signal, and changing the names of ships that were commissioned after civil rights activists.
As of 4am Sunday, the mayor of Los Angeles has reported no presence of the National Guard or Marines in her city.
Since D-day, ICE has mass arrested hundreds of shoppers in three cities: LA, Paramount, and Minneapolis. Veteran protests against Trump on D-day were left alone.

Historically, National Guard troops have refused illegal orders in certain cases. If Newsom directs the National Guard to stand down, there could be legal battles over whether Trump’s order is legitimate or unconstitutional.
Whether individual Guard members follow orders or resist remains to be seen. This will be a major test whether the American military truely is aligned to serve the constitution(s), or they bare allegance to honorless men.
It's important to remember protests are meant to show the strength of unity and numbers behind a particular take to politicians. They are not for beating things or people up.
On his birthday, Trump is planning something big he thinks will secure his dictatorship. We don't know what it is, except it has something to do with the parade. The parade maybe used as a means to permanently deploy army units and fortify DC.
But, Trump has been called out, and that is why he is premptively reacting before he is ready, before he loses his advantage of surprise.

He can't arbitrarily deploy the army against civilians without justification to the House and Senate in-order to get their permission. The executive can't declare war. The legislative branch has to.
So, Newsom is not caught up in distraction. He is following legal protocol to disable Trump by officially stating there is no need for these troops.
But, I get what you mean. The H.R.1 bill is going through the Senate right now. If the Senate does not approve it, the bill will be sent back to be reworked in a committee.
The D-day veteran protests focused on forcing that, and I have been reminding people daily. If people forget to pressure Congress because they are watching ICE arrest people, H.R.1 may pass.
There are actually three seperate factions fighting each other to gain power. They are not doing it as a distraction. They are all playing for keeps.
It's easy to call all of this a distraction so you can ignore it. But, you can't. It's like being caught on the street in the middle of the crossfire from three seperate gangs trying to take each other out, and not doing anything to protect yourself or the people you are with by pretending nothing is happening.
Americans maybe forming perception blindness. Canada and the rest of the world isn't. We are still helping Ukraine, dealing with Trump's Tariffs, rebuilding supply chains and strengthening military alliances.
Carney has invited Zelenskky to the G7 meeting in Alberta to be held later this month to co-ordinate further defence of Ukrainian interests.
See, we are all able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Americans have to learn how too, if they want to survive the Trump Regime.
