I’ve always considered that the money they’ve been taking out of my check since I was 15.5 years old was for my social security when I retired - basically, they were saving it for me and I would start receiving it back when I retired. What I see now is that they’ve been taking my money the entire time and there is nothing left for me (or any of us who have been paying). They like to blame “Boomers” (as if we had a say as to when we were born) and even if they meant there are too many “Boomers” that still doesn’t account for the fact that each of us had an account and we were all paying in our entire lives and the US government stole our money. That’s a class action suit.

Great work Fred! We are so deep into this. I am one of the millions of "elder orphans" with no family. I am doing my best to survive. When I know I should be thinking about taking advantage of LIEHP or rent rebates, Musk is on his way to cut them.

I fear scenes reminiscent of the Great Depression when the homeless population soars, soup and bread line extends around blocks. Then we will remember John Steinbeck words if you're broke and need a hand, go to the poor. they're the ones willing to help

Ah yes, letting a scammer immigrant run rampant through our government and doing cozy press interviews while his ignorant ass bankrupts and make millions homeless. Great strategy, Cotton.

Will this be the straw that breaks the cults back as many of them will wake up wondering why Granny can't get her meds or they have to sell their single wide to pay for last months nursing home bill?

If you know that people who are here illegally have no access to entitlements, you know more than Elon Musk knows. Today I saw a clip of Larry Kudlow interviewing Elon, and Elon said that entitlements are the whole reason all those people are here. He went on to say that Democrats encourage undocumented immigrants to come because they are then Democratic voters. Of course, we know that undocumented people can’t vote, and that there is no record of their ever have done so at any scale to influence an election.

I sat there thinking, “And this man is supposed to be a genius?” If Kudlow pushed back on any of this, I missed it.

And this is someone Trump is allowing to shred our government institutions in the name of efficiency. God help us.

Oops. Yes. Sorry. I jump around a lot on Substack, and I read your column in two different sessions. I wanted to go through the last bit more slowly than I had time for earlier. By the time I got back to it, I had forgotten that this was one of the places I had heard part of the Kudlow interview.

Don't you think the whole "efficiency" thing is a ruse anyway? I think the endgame is to completely trash our economy and our country so the oligarchs can buy everything at firesale prices and make out like the bandits they are.

I have tried to tell a Rep voter I know that Immigrants do not get free help from government but I might as well talked to a signpost. I know they cannot vote but REp. lied and people soaked up all their lies. And repeated those lies. Still telling those lies after they should know better. Americans will not research and find out the truth. WHY///?????

THEY ARE NOT ALL IGNORANT , most are smart , so then is it they are cult followers" I cannot understand this delimma we are in.

Lots of people in nursing homes don't have kids, or if they do, the kids are poor. This will result either in mass executions, or, if we're lucky, the return of the Poor Farms that we had prior to 1940. Mark my words.

I have heard about those poor farms from my DAd when I was a kid. DAd worked for a farmer as a teenager during the depression. He walked from his house to the farm to work. He had to walk past a POOR HOUSE.. HE FELT SO SORRY FOR THOSE ELDERLY MEN and WOMEN. He never forgot that and said those old people had to work in the gardens and fields ,so weaK, could barely stand BUT IF THEY ATE THEY HAD TO WORK.

I suppose the difference is that now we keep totally disabled people (including people with severe dementia) alive for a long time in nursing homes, whereas 90-100 years ago these people would probably have just had shorter lives, succumbing to infectious disease in the pre-antibiotic era. Looks grim no matter how you look at it.

Yes and there are people making a lot of money off Medicare to keep some people barely alive. There is definitely some fraud and abuse, but I doubt we see a single prosecution because the rich people doing it are in power.

I think after the first 3-4 mos, everyone in a NH is either private-pay or Medicaid. M'aid is about to be cut off. Lots of NHs around me are barely making it anyway, and now most

will close. If there is a future way to make a profit off this population, I haven't seen it yet. (But I'm sure someone will figure it out if there is $$ to be made somehow -- ?? warehousing maybe??)

Do they expect us all just to gather and commit collective suicide to get those of us who are old, infirm, low-income, have disabled family members or are otherwise imperfect non-millionaires out of the way? Not one of these brilliant budget busters seems to have the slightest idea of a plan for what's next after they cut off these funds. It's truly unimaginable and apparently they, least of all, have tried to imagine it.

I think we need to start having massive die-ins like we did in the anti-nuke days and make them deal with the reality of the misery they're signing their names to.

I'm one of those seniors who depends on Social Security for half my income. I have been working and paying into this program since I was 14 years old and my fury at these idiots' ignorance and incompetence may be the thing that does me in. Though ... that would be letting them win ("One less old one to deal with ...") so I won't.

Get out your 5 Calls App and start making those legislators' phones ring off the hook!

How about cutting Musk’s entitlements??? All his government contracts???

I am so worried over losing my small Social Security and Medicare. Don’t know what I would do.

It's even worse. Many rural and small hospitals rely upon Medicare and Medicaid patients to stay afloat. Take those programs away and those hospitals will close. The people who work there lose their jobs, maybe their homes. Then there's Social Security. Take that away, especially after crashing the economy and the stock market and all hell will break loose. Banks go under because mortgages and car loans aren't being paid. Struggling people stop buying stuff. People die because they don't get Healthcare. You get the picture. This is the tip of the iceberg, and all so wealthy people can get a tax break, and because our elected officials were too gutless to fix this situation years ago. This cannot happen!

I don't think many realize that the Project 2025 folks aren't too worried about SS or Nursing Homes or Medicaid and Medicare because "God will provide." They are focused on the "END TIMES" and the return of Jesus as prophesized in their bible. The rest of us suffering is just God's will and will bring about said END TIMES. I know that sounds nuts, but that is the thinking behind those who authored Project 2025. Eventually, folks will have to go through faith-based agencies to get help if they need it. Not unlike the Crisis Pregnancy Centers already in existance.

1. These are the end times. Even people who don’t believe in the Bible can see a cliff ahead, and soon.

2. The end times prophecies say that the world will be overrun by men who are “lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers…not open to any agreement…without love of goodness, betrayers.” (2 Tim 3) Who fits that description? Hint: oligarchs.

3. That kind of people will be the TARGET when Jesus returns. 2 Thess 1:7, 8.

So yeah, I’m all for the end to come quickly.

What’s astounding to me is how far this has gotten. None of this would poll well. But the Heritage Foundation - part of that vast right-wing conspiracy Hillary Clinton so rightly called out 27 years ago - operates in an assymetrical environment; they have a bunch of people focused on this agenda, and the rest of the country is either 1) busy living their lives or 2) unable to conceive that anyone in this country would be so evil as to pursue this agenda. When the benefits concentrated to a few people, and the costs are dispersed among many, the former have a lot more incentive to be aggressive about it.

Every Republican everywhere in America needs to have their rear ends fried if they even suggest they will go along with this. And not be given one minute of peace. They will destroy their constituents and any future they may have, which will include people that are on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid and those that are not. This is the typical Republican BS lying con game. Begin the propaganda to set up and convince the deaf, dumb, and blind that this is a good thing. And then strip them of any and all benefits and blame others for it. And make people pay for what they just lost at very high prices with little to no benefits. And leave a smoldering ruined country in their wake......

Republicans have wanted to destroy SS, Medicare and Medicaid since forever. They didn't plan on Elon doing all the dirty work for them, but now that he is, they are absolutely thrilled. They get to stand by and watch as he and his minions gang-rape the federal government. They have no plan after that other than, "get to work, you lazy bums" and their blind view that the magical markets and charities will provide. They have this Victorian viewpoint that some are deserving snd others not; that people should pull themselves up by their bootstraps; that poverty is due to moral failures; that people should be punished for their "sins." These are monsters.
